1968's front wheel drive piston-powered Mazda Luce featured a new rotary engine option for 1969. The new Luce Rotary or R130 featured a unique powerplant, as it was the first and only application of Mazda's 13A engine. The engine was Mazda's only deviation to date from the traditional cross-section seen on the 10A, 12A, 13B and race engine variants. The engine produced 126 hp (94 kW) and 127 ft·lbf (172 N·m). Quarter-mile (400 m) performance was 16.9 seconds.
